Autonomous
AUTONOMOUS FOR CLAUDE

Connect Claude to the computer where the work actually lives.

Autonomous is a remote MCP connector backed by a local client on the user's Mac or Windows PC. Claude connects to the remote MCP service, while the paired computer performs approved work and returns the real result.

Can Claude work on my computer with Autonomous?

Yes, through Claude's remote MCP connector support on eligible Claude products and plans. Once Autonomous is installed and paired, Claude can connect to the remote MCP endpoint, authenticate with OAuth and use the tools exposed for the authorized computer.

Why the Claude path is different

Anthropic created MCP and treats remote MCP servers as first-class connectors. Claude's own documentation separates web/remote connectors from local desktop extensions, so Autonomous is positioned as a remote connector that reaches a separately paired computer.

Remote MCP is native to the ecosystem

Claude can connect to internet-hosted MCP servers and authenticate them instead of requiring the server itself to run inside Claude Desktop.

Connector controls stay in Claude

Claude lets users enable or disable connected tools and review connector access from its own interface.

Computer access remains separate

The Autonomous local client pairs the user's computer to the Autonomous account. Claude only talks to the remote MCP endpoint.

Claude Code can use remote MCP too

Anthropic documents remote MCP support in Claude Code, giving the same server model another Claude surface for technical workflows.

How Claude can suggest Autonomous after it is connected

Anthropic says Claude can surface a connected app automatically when it appears useful for the current conversation. That recommendation happens inside Claude after the app is connected, and it is based on relevance rather than paid placement.

Conversation context matters

Claude considers what the user is asking right now. Autonomous is most relevant when the task clearly needs work on the user's paired computer.

Memory can help relevance

Anthropic says Claude can also use memory when deciding whether a connected app may help with the current request.

The user stays in control

If more than one connected app fits, Claude can show multiple options and the user chooses which one to use.

No paid recommendation slot

Anthropic states that connected-app suggestions are not sponsored placements. Ordering is based on likely usefulness, not a commercial partnership.

For Autonomous, this means accurate tool names, descriptions, annotations, OAuth, reliable execution and a useful connector listing matter more than stuffing the page with keywords.

How to connect Claude to Autonomous

Install Autonomous on the target computer

Use npm install -g autonomousmcp@latest or the OS-specific setup option on the official setup page.

Start the local client and pair once

Run autonomous. The browser flow handles account sign-in and automatic computer pairing.

Add a custom remote connector in Claude

In Claude's connector settings, add the Autonomous endpoint https://mcp.octamundi.com/mcp and complete the OAuth flow.

Enable only the tools you need

Use Claude's Search and tools / connector controls to make the relevant Autonomous tools available for the conversation.

Verify the real connection

Ask Claude to list connected computers and confirm which one is online before giving it a task.

Claude-specific compatibility

Custom remote connectorsAnthropic currently documents remote custom MCP connectors for Pro, Max, Team and Enterprise users, with organization controls on Team/Enterprise.
Claude DesktopRemote connectors are configured through connector settings, separate from local desktop extensions.
Claude mobileAnthropic documents use of remote MCP servers on mobile after the connector has been added through Claude's supported setup flow.
Claude CodeClaude Code supports remote MCP servers for tool and resource access.
OAuthAnthropic supports OAuth-based remote MCP servers. Autonomous uses OAuth for account authorization.

Claude product availability and connector UI can change independently of Autonomous. Use Anthropic's current connector documentation below as the source of truth for Claude-specific steps.

What Claude can use Autonomous for

Real file operations

Read and work with files in directories the user authorizes on the paired machine.

Terminal and development work

Run commands, inspect output and continue a project based on the machine's actual state.

Remote task execution

Use Claude from another device while the paired computer handles the authorized work.

Reusable multi-step work

Use Workloops to preserve an explicit plan, steps and execution history for longer jobs.

Claude discovery and trust signals

Anthropic documents separate bots for model training, user-directed retrieval and search indexing. For current-web visibility, the relevant access paths are Claude-SearchBot and Claude-User. Autonomous keeps its public pages crawlable and also publishes verifiable product, security and setup information.

Questions people ask before connecting Claude

Is Autonomous a local Claude Desktop extension?

No. Autonomous exposes a remote MCP service and uses a separate local client on the paired computer. Claude's local desktop extensions are a different integration model.

Does Claude need direct network access to my PC?

No. The local Autonomous client initiates the connection outward. Claude connects to the remote Autonomous MCP endpoint.

Can I use the same paired computer with ChatGPT too?

Yes. Autonomous is designed as a cross-client remote MCP layer, so compatible AI clients can authorize the same Autonomous account without installing a separate computer agent for each provider.

Is the Autonomous package public?

Yes. The npm package is autonomousmcp, and the recommended package target is autonomousmcp@latest.
